Breakdancing or Popping classes for 16-y-o daughter

Aug 2010

My daughter who is currently 16 years old is interested in taking some beginners breakdancing or popping classes. She has never done dance before but she has been very active with soccer and cross-country. Does anyone have any recommendations for places in the East Bay or San Francisco that specialize in those styles? Thank you so much! -Anonymous

Try The Beat over on 9th St (off Parker) in Berkeley. The class is every Saturday from 2-3:30. It's a good group of teens that real seem to enjoy the class. m

Private hip hop or club dancing lessons

May 2008

Looking for a dance instructor for private lessons to help my husband and I learn some of the more current dance styles. I used to dance quite a bit, but haven't for a number of years, and so am feeling just kind of at a loss when we go out to dance now. Would like to get lots more practice doing high energy aerobic dancing that is current. Any help or ideas would be great. Wanna get back in the groove

Contact New Style Motherlode Dance Studio on College in Rockridge. They have AWESOME group cardio hip hop classes, a great hip hop performance group, and really incredible choreographers/teachers. www.newstylemotherlode.com 5451 College Ave. 597-1056

Breakdance classes for 16-year-old

March 2008

My 16 year old son is interested in learning to breakdance. He is very athletic and we are looking for suggestions on classes or an instructor that is affiliated with a gym. anon

I would recommend he try a class at The Beat (google it), a dance studio in Berkeley, taught by Binly. His class is on on Saturdays from 12:30-2 and anyone can drop in. Binly teaches all ages and levels and the class is small enough that he can do it all in one class. He's really good and patient and it's a completely non-competitive, relaxed atmosphere. Joan

Hip hop/jazz/modern dance classes for 13-year-old

I'm looking for hip hop/jazz/modern dance classes for my 13 yr. old daughter that are fun but somewhat structured where she would also learn about dance (not just hip hop aerobics). Preferably in Berkeley or nearby (Oakland, Albany or El Cerrito would be OK too). Any one have any recommendations? Miyoko

Several of my 7 yr. old's friends have taken what sounds like a great dance class held at a church near the bottom of Marin near San Pablo Ave. in Albany. We're thinking of starting. It's taught by a woman who specializes in West African dancing. Her name is DeLisa. I got her card at the Solano Stroll. I don't know off hand what age groups she teaches but you can call her at 524-2807 Stefanie

I would recommend Rhythm and Motion, which is located in a great old sewing machine factory at around 7th and Mission in downtown SF. Deborah
