Alexander Winslow is a great guy and a great tennis instructor. I don't know if he teaches beginners, but he at least would be able to recommend someone. (My daughters have taken a few lessons with him in the summers).
Winslow Tennis Academy! He teaches camps in the summer and after school lessons. He is awesome! Upbeat, fun, patient, but structured and really works with the kid tomaximize learning.
My 8 year son has been with Alexander Winslow for a year. His play has really improved, but more importantly he really enjoys it. I asked him why and he rattled off all the interesting approaches Alexander uses to keep kids interested in the practice. Having served as a soccer coach I know the challenge of keeping kids focused during practice, so I really appreciate what Alexander has been able to achieve with the kids. Also I have observed a good balance of fun with a limited tolerance for nonsense, kids that want to fool around and disrupt things are shut down pretty quickly. In short I highly recommend Alexander Winslow classes and camps for kids of any age.
My son is 8 and not at all easy to please when it comes to classes that require him to focus and practice. Basically, he requires a teacher who can channel his rambunctious social energy well. I get the sense that Alexander's keen understanding of how to make this sport accessible to kids and fun is making all the difference for now my son keeps asking to sign up for more lessons. From watching the kids' group lessons myself, I can see how Alexander combines personal, hands on instruction & a veritable slew of tennis games with a rich understanding of stroke technique, footwork, shot making, fitness and healthy competition. Improving my son's tennis skills and keeping it fun is a challenge Alexander seems fit for...thank you!
I have a son who loves tennis. He's taken many lessons from various coaches around the North Berkeley area. I found Alexander of Winslow Tennis Academy through some of my adult tennis friends and took group lessons with him- he was fantastic. He really made our ladies foursome a fun experience all the while working on my game. I looked forward to our weekly lesson and to seeing Alexander. I liked his style of coaching so much that I introduced my 9yr old to him. Alexander is open to working with all levels of tennis ability. He is focused on really providing good solid tennis instruction, clearly explained. He has a lot of good information to convey. He has a real skill at explaining his instructions to both adults and kids. He makes his lessons fun and informative. He also goes above an beyond to help match up kids and adults with partners for playing. He clearly loves the game - has the knowledge and is a great coach- takes a real interest in "your" experience and how you and or your child are learning. If you want a lot of instruction he gives it,...if you want to just hit and less instruction he's there for that too. My son has learned a lot from him and I look forward to more lessons in the future. Thanks Alexander.
Very happy with Winslow Tennis Academy. Alexander and his staff emphasize sportsmanship as well as basic skills and techniques. Above all, they make the classes fun! I appreciate having my son learn a new sport in an environment that is low-key, welcoming to all kinds of kids, and again... Just plain old fun.
