RE: Reading help for 1st grader

My daughter saw a private educational therapist in our home. His name is Bill Baldyga. We were thrilled with the progress our daughter made. In less than three months she jumped several grade levels in reading. All the experts say that the earlier you intervene, the easier it is to correct any issues that your child might have. You can contact Bill through his website at: www.halcyonlearning.com MW

RE: My kindergartener is falling behind in reading

I have used both Genie Barry and Bill Baldyga, who are both reading specialists, for my kids. I don't have either number on me, but you can search either online. I have no idea if either one of them has openings at this time. I wouldn't wait. Both of these reading specialists will just get your daughter where she needs to be, in the best way possible. Sometimes if you wait, the class can pass the kid, and then they miss it. Other times, there actually can be a learning issue, which is just that, just an issue. Some kids need things presented to them in a different way. Confidence can get you far in life. Best wishes to you. I used to struggle myself

RE: 15 yr old son just diagnosed with dyslexia (Albany)

Bill Baldyga works with older dyslexic kids. He's an educational therapist and can give you a better idea on the next steps to take. He's helped our daughter and I recommend him highly. He can be reached at: halcyonlearning.com. Best of luck to you and your son.

RE: Math tutor for 4th grader on the spectrum

I highly recommend Bill Baldyga. I found him through BPN. He specializes in working with kids who have learning disabilities. My son is on the spectrum and was struggling with math concepts. He is entering 3rd grade and has been working with Bill on math and reading comprehension 2x/week for about a year. At this point, he is working on math problems at or above grade level. Bill comes to our house. You can find out more about his services at http://www.halcyonlearning.com

RE: Reading specialist for 1st grade boy

What you should look for is an Educational Therapist. I posted this just a few weeks ago, so sorry if this is a repeat for you. The guy we used is named Bill Baldyga. halcyonlearning.com is his website.

The following is what I said last time. Bill is personable, quiet and very clam. He listens well and he thinks outside the box using different techniques and approaches to work with your child. He figures out what's missing and starts from there. He worked very well with our daughter. She has a hard time sitting still and focusing (she prefers to stand or move) Bill had her stand on a balance board the whole hour he worked with her (on reading etc) and she loved it. It helped her focus and made the time pass more quickly for her. I think Bill is more expensive than a ''standard tutor'' but that is not what he is. He is much more and definitely worth it.

Our daughter was reading below grade level is 2nd grade and by 3rd grade she read all 7 Harry Potter books herself. It was such a relief when she started to work with Bill, and her reading started to come along. Nancy

Bill Baldyga for tutoring?

Oct 2008

Has anyone used Bill Baldyga for tutoring? He is an educational therapist. One posting said he was great. We are considering his services. What is his personality like? Is he expensive? How did your kids respond to his methods of teaching? Anything that would be helpful would be great. thanks

In response to your inquiry about tutors, Bill is personable, quiet and very calm. He listens well and he thinks outside the box using different techniques and approaches to work with your child. He figures out what's missing and starts from there. He worked very well with our daughter. She has a hard time sitting still and focussing (she prefers to stand or move) Bill had her stand on a balance board the whole hour he worked with her (on reading etc) and she loved it. It helped her focus and made the time pass more quickly for her. I think Bill is more expensive than a ''standard tutor'' but that is not what he is. He is much more and definitely worth it. He does so much more than just going over sight words or math flash cards.

Our daughter was reading below grade level in 2nd grade and by 3rd grade she read all 7 Harry Potter books herself. I actually recommend Bill to alot of people, and I am happy to do so here as well. Nancy

RE: Tutor for child with learning disability

I didn't see your original post, but OUSD's first offer is to hold your kid back so they can have the same instruction that didn't work the first time. That was my experience anyway. My child worked with Bill Baldyga. I highly recommend him. He will come to your home or school. 415-216-8493. www.Halcyonlearning.com Sign me as my child now can read!

RE: Second grader's reading ability

I'd really, really encourage you to contact Bill Baldyga. He's an educational therapist with a pragmatic, effective approach who is very conscious of the challenges to a child's self-esteem when these problems crop up. He's helped my daughter tremendously. His website is http://www.halcyonlearning.com, and his phone is 415.216.8493. He's newly relocated to the East Bay. Good luck! Anonymous

RE: 2nd grade daughter needs help learning to read

Your post really struck a chord with me; I wish I had not waited so long to get help outside of the school system. It took me a long time to realize that the school either doesn't know how to help my son, or they don't want to admit he has a learning disability because then they are legally bound to pay to help him. My 10 year old son also has had problems in school, largely surrounding reading, which seemed to evolve into social/behavioral problems. I'm feeling much more hopeful these days, as we have found a great educational therapist who has us moving in the right direction, and my son has only been seeing him for a few months now. I can't express how relieved I am about the progress my son has made. His name is Bill Baldyga and his contact information is 415-216-8493 website is halcyonlearning.com. He relocated from Santa Cruz recently, and a friend referred him to me. I'd sign my name, but we're wanting to be low key about his struggles in our small school community, so sign me. .a happier mom with a happier son
