Founded by Bruce Linton, Ph.D and facilitated by Jason Brand, LCSW

The focus of the Fathers’ Forum Men’s Group for Dads is to share and explore with a small group of dads (group limited to 7 men) our hopes, aspirations and disappointments of being fathers.  In our group we will explore the cultural and social myths of fatherhood, our relationships with our own fathers, changes in relationships with our partners, balancing career and family, changes in sexuality, expressing anger and frustration and the diversity of parenting styles.

Dr. Bruce Linton runs Fathers' Forum (a dad group) in Berkeley, and also does individual counseling sessions. He's been a great resource for my husband, who has general anxiety that's been exacerbated by becoming a father (especially in a global pandemic).

RE: Fathers' Groups?

Check out Bruce Linton, PhD who has been running the Father's Forum for many years and has groups for new and expectant fathers. I don't have his number handy, but he is definitely in the book and has a web site. Good luck!

RE: smart and insightful marriage counselor?

Dr Bruce Linton in Berkeley has helped make my marriage positively enjoyable! Plus, he takes our insurance. I don't have his number offhand, because my husband does the appointment duties (a testament to Dr Linton's therapy in itself), but he's in the phonebook. Good Luck!

RE: Books on Fatherhood for anxious dad-to-be

Dr. Bruce Linton in Berkeley has a support group for new and expectant fathers 510 644 0300, as well as a book called Finding time for Fatherhood. My husband has never liked/trusted therapists but seems to have bonded very quickly with Dr. Linton. He is an expert in this arena, and he takes insurance! He is recommended elsewher on this site, too. Good Luck!

P.S. It's easy to underestimate the power of a baby over your best emotions. Your husband may be surprised by the feelings of love he feels for the child. Anne

Bruce Linton in North Berkeley (on Shattuck between Cedar and Vine) has a fathers' group that has worked well for my husband. He's able to talk with other new dads and has even made strong enough connections to join a few fathers with the kids at a park on the weekends ( a great break for me.) Don't know his number off hand, but Dr. Linton is well known and a ''really good guy.'' Check him out Heidi

RE: Therapist for husband's childhood demons

My husband has similar issues to your husband and he was able to get some help by Dr. Bruce Linton in Berkeley. I don't have his number but his office is near Chez Panisse. Unfortunately we moved out of the area and he was only able to see him about 5 times, however he did find his counselling to be very helpful. Dr. Linton also runs the Fathers' Forum which is for fathers to get together and discuss various issues.
