I would recommend checking out the wonderful St. James Christian Schools in San Leandro. https://www.stjameschristianschools.com/

I served as the pastor of the St. James congregation for several years and led chapel with the children on Wednesdays and interacted with the kiddos and parents on a daily basis. St. James offers a safe setting, loving teachers, long-term teachers, high teacher to student ratio, affordable as preschools go, and they really emphasize building community among the families. I know groups of families who have stayed friends for years. Good luck!

Hi! Our 3-year-old son is attending St. James preschool in San Leandro (on Estudillo) and we love it! The teachers are very loving and engaging, there's an outdoor space that the kids play in several times a day, and their hours are 7am-6pm. They don't currently provide lunch, only morning and afternoon snacks. Feel free to reach out if you have specific questions!

Take a look at St. James Christian Schools, located behind the Rite Aid on MacArthur. Our child was in the school-age aftercare program (until we moved) and really loved it there. They also have an well-established preschool. The teaching staff is stable/long-term, well-qualified, and they sincerely care about the children as individuals. They do an excellent job with social development, I thought. The facilities are nice, and often improved through parent community involvement--it's a very active community. There are lop-eared bunnies and they've recently put in a chicken coop and garden--the school-age program has chinchillas and reptiles. It is part of a church, and therefore nonprofit, but also Christian. The religious aspect was a drawback for us (being Jewish); the school-age program is genuinely non-religious, but the preschoolers do attend chapel. It's certainly not a conservative community, however. Overall, we'd highly recommend it.

Have also heard good things about the preschool at Beth Sholom Synagogue, but never sent the kids there, so can't offer a testimonial.

Re: Suggestions for daycare/pre-school in San Leandro
Hi, there: We've been very pleased with St. James in San Leandro on Estudillo near MacArthur. They offer a 2's program, as well as preschool, including a pre-k program, and are open year-round. Although Christian (Lutheran), the school is pretty light- weight on the religion bent and they're pretty reasonable $- wise. The only other decent option in SL that accepted part- time was Broadmoor, but that's an arduous co-op. St. James was by far the best bet. bob
