RE:
CIT programs for teens (Apr 11, 2018)

Hi there - I think CIT'ing at age 15 is perfect.  Our son was a CIT at Full Belly Farm (sleep away) camp last summer at age 14, and will do so again this summer.  He enjoyed it, and I think it gives kids that age the right combo of supervision and responsibility.  If it had fit our schedule (they require 2 consecutive weeks), we would have had him CIT at Berkeley Day Camp, run by the City of Berkeley, which he and his sister both attended from K-6th grade and loved.  It's a very traditional camp - hiking, games, arts/crafts, etc. at either Tilden or Berkeley Marina, so no "tech focus" or anything, but really a great outdoorsy experience with a lot of kids.  And we liked the counselors there very much.  Good luck!

Hi, has anyone sent their children to Full Belly Farm's sleep away camp in the summer? We're long time CSA members and love the Hoes Down, and I'm curious about the summer camp. Did your child have fun? Were you and they happy with the experience? Thanks for any feedback! farm camp?

My daughter went to camp Fully Belly Farm when she was 9 years old and loved it. She wanted to go again this year but it conflicts with another camp that she also wanted to attend. Your child will love it there if they love farm animals. It is out in the middle of nowhere so you can't get in touch with your child in the middle of the week. The camp sends out a mass email to parents on Wednesday explaining what the kids have been doing. The environment is very rustic. Most of the time the kids have to use porta-potties because there is only one flush toilet. joy
