  • Hello - wondering if any East Bay families have tried North Bridge? Our child is currently in 4th grade and just got an IEP for math, but she did not qualify for any language arts interventions. We had had an independent neuropsych eval that did diagnose dyslexia in 2021. I guess she didn't reach the threshhold for OUSD. We have visited North Bridge a couple times and we're so impressed with the tour presentation....it seems like it would be an approach that would finally reach her. Our biggest concern is the commute and the tuition, but we're spending quite a bit on Ed therapy and math tutoring anyway. Worried about her being able to keep up as the academics get more intensive in 5th grade/middle school. Would be very grateful for any insights, especially if you transitioned to the school a bit later (4th, 5th, 6th). Thanks!

North Bridge Academy was amazing for our daughter!  I can't tell you how grateful we are that we found this school.  It literally saved both her academic future and her self esteem! The school is built around the dyslexic profile and so each day she got exactly what she needed from some of the best experts on dyslexia.  She absolutely thrived there and definitely did not have that opportunity during the 5 years she spent in BUSD (she transferred to NBA in 5th grade).  At BUSD she had well intentioned teachers who had no idea how to teach a dyslexic student, so they didn't.  They told her to guess at the words, listen to audiobooks and put books everywhere in the house. That was the best advice and teaching our daughter received, so in 4th grade she was still well below grade level despite daily help at home and several private interventions.  This is a much longer story than I can write here, but I highly, highly recommend that you consider North Bridge Academy.  When I heard Priya speak at their info session, I felt like she was talking about my daughter even though she hadn't met her yet and her four years there set her up beautifully to enter high school ready! The commute is challenging to say the least.  Feel free to PM me if you want to set up a time to talk.
