Since you're in SL, check out Woodroe Woods.  It's great.  Long waiting list but put your kiddo on it now.  Our son recently started there and his two teachers have been at the school for 30 years between the two of them. Very warm, nurturing, play-based, lovely, pretty affordable. The other places I would recommend in SL would be the new La Plazita location at San Leandro BART and Children's Montessori Adventure.  Both are excellent in their own way too.

We sent our oldest to Woodroe Woods (750 Fargo Ave, San Leandro, CA 94579) and we absolutely loved it. I wish we could send our youngest there but a recent move makes the commute time impossible. I strongly recommend checking them out. They have a very large outdoor play area and they have great teachers.

Both our kids have been attending Woodroe Woods for the past 2 years and we love it. The teachers are loving and the play based philosophy is what I believe in. My 5 year old is in kindergarten and has thrived. Most importantly, she loves school and has developed a love for reading and math (and school!). My 4 year old was very shy at first and is now extremely talkative. The school is moving to San Lorenzo in June 2016 and we still plan to send our kids there for the summer camp and next year. Highly recommended! www.Woodroesnewbeginning.org

Re: Castro Valley Preschools?

My 3 year old and 4.5 year old are going to Woodroe Woods which is on the border of Castro Valley and Hayward and we love it. The school is very play based and the kids get a lot of outside and play time. The school has been around for years and usually has a long waiting list. But it is worth it. CV mom

I am interested in sending my child to Woodroe Woods School in Hayward, and would like to hear from parents who have had a child there. What were your experiences like? What were some of the highlights (or low points)? How much did the program allow children's interests to determine what children do? Thanks for your help. Margarita

Our daughter went to preschool and part of kindergarten at Woodrow Woods and had a fabulous experience. The on-site swimming lessons and experience with live animals (esp. llamas) was exceptional. The teachers and staff were very caring and professional. We moved, which is why she did not continue there. L B
