Our son went to Sunflowers Daycare and we could not be happier.

We looked at 13 daycares before signing up for Sunflowers. Our son attended for 3+ years, it has been half a year since he graduated into kindergarten & we are still confident we made the right choice.

We appreciate that there is more than one care giver with the kids at a time, which made for more supervision than many other places we looked at. Sunflowers also provided meals and great structured activities. He came out knowing all of the the letters and numbers which impressed his kindergarten teacher.

Mehdi and Mahta provided a lot of feedback regarding his progress and made sure to address any behavior issues that he was having up front. Because our child was very energetic the structured system worked well for him. I felt that they were willing to work with us and to hear our concerns that we brought up.

We highly recommend Sunflowers Daycare, especially for first time parents.

Here is my quasi-regular plug for the home-based daycare/preschool we sent our kids to: Sunflowers Daycare in Rockridge. They also run Orkidz in Albany, which is bigger. Good outdoor space, great activities (weekly yoga, music, nature walks, etc), excellent homemade food, and very diverse group of kids with nice parents. The family who runs it takes it VERY seriously and really want the best for the kids. We are finally leaving after having been there for almost four years! A bunch of kids are leaving for TK at the end of summer so they will likely have a few spots (only 12 kids total).

Sunflowers gives you everything you could want in a daycare for your child. (1) You want to know your child is safe. The facilities at Sunflowers are always pristinely clean, organized, and safe. The children are well cared for and supervised at all times. (2) You want your child to be learning and growing. Mahta, the owner, is highly educated in child development and takes every child’s education very seriously. Parents are always completely aware of what their child is working on, learning, and where they may need a little extra focus. (3) You want your child to feel happy and loved. As parents dropping your little ones off for maybe the first time, this is probably the most important. And the amount of love and joy that the children, teachers, and parents feel here is overwhelming and awesome. My daughter used to come home every night talking all about her friends and teachers and wake up every morning saying she dreamed about her teacher, Stacey. :)

The community and Sunflowers truly feels like a family, and I always felt so blessed and grateful to leave my daughter in a place where she would be surrounded by love and very genuine personalized care. She was never a face in a crowd of kids; every child is nurtured individually. We recently had to leave the school because we moved, but I even commuted an hour there every day for 2 extra months; that’s how much we loved it. I couldn’t recommend them more.

Our family is so fortunate to have Mahta and her helpers in our lives. The peace of mind I get from knowing my daughter is in good hands is invaluable. My daughter is happy, healthy and thriving at Sunflowers. Every day, Mahta texts me a photo of my daughter engaged in one of the many activities of the day. There's cooking, art, singing, and playing! Also, Mahta takes the kids on field trips, has regular conferences with parents to discuss their child's development, and hosts parties so the parents and kids can all get together! I don't know how she does it! She's understanding and a pleasure to work with, fosters a sense of community, and is nurturing to the kids (with hugs and "I love you"s). I have so many good things to say about Mahta and Sunflowers. If you'd like to know more from a parent, please feel free to contact me!

We love Mahta and Sunflowers Daycare! Our daughter is happy and flourishing under Mahta's care. She's been going to Sunflowers since she was about 10 months old and after almost a year and a half, we couldn't be happier. Our daughter is happy when we drop her off and happy when we pick her up. Plus, Mahta is an educator and always finds fun ways to teach the children different shapes, colors, animal sounds and songs -- our daughter is always singing new songs! Dropping your child off at daycare is hard, but Mahta and her team at Sunflowers love what they do, they love the children in their charge, and they've become part of our family.

We LOVE Sunflowers! Our son has been going there since he was 4 months old. Mahta and her staff are amazing! My baby is happy when I drop him off, and clean, happy and in a great mood when I pick him up. The kids get excellent attention, home-cooked meals, and are well-cared for. He gets to participate in activities that I alone couldn't arrange for him. After 7 months, we couldn't be more appreciative of our daycare.

My daughter has been attending Sunflowers on a part-time basis since May of 2013. She thoroughly enjoys going, because it is a very stimulating environment for her. They have circle time every day, during which they read and sing songs. They go to the park every Monday and Friday, to the Library on Wednesdays, and on other days they do crafts or other special activities.

My daughter and I both appreciate Mahta's fine culinary skills. She provides home-cooked meals and snacks. In the mornings it usually smells like french toast or pancakes, and when I pick my daughter up midday, I always leave hungry.

I appreciate how professional, organized and committed Mahta is to making sure the children and their parents are getting a great experience.

We enrolled our daughter with Mahta Marashi at Sun Flowers Home Day Care when she was 3.5 months old. Leaving your child with anyone feels very scary but she made us feel very comfortable. She, her family (husband and 2 adorable girls) and her 2 assistants are very loving, playful and nurturing with the children. Her teacher/child ratio 2:4 on most days, which we really liked. Mahta cooks them homemade food and she provides formula/milk. She keeps the kids busy with lots of activities and learning opportunities including, art projects, sensory activities, trips to the park, story time at the library each week and an occasional trip to Fairyland. Mahta has a lot of energy for the children and is more than just a daycare provider in that she loves to teach and expose the children to new experiences. I would highly reccomend Mahta Marashi at Sun Flowers Home Day Care if you are looking for child care in the Lake Merritt area of Oakland.
