  • We have a 5yo with pragmatic language issues and are looking for a social skills group with a Speech and Language therapist. I've seen tons of recommendations for Communication Works in the archives but they have morphed into Seven Bridges with a lot of different therapists and there are no reviews for them. Does anyone have any current experience with Seven Bridges? Or other recommendations? A lot of the ones in the archives no longer seem to be around. Thanks!

Check with the Ann Martin Center. I know at least in the past they had a group for kids up to 6, they may have or know about more.

Seven Bridges Therapy has several locations in the Bay Area. My son has been going to their social skills group since he was 4 years old and he’s 9 now. He goes to the Oakland location and 3 out of 5 therapists have been great at facilitating the group. The 2 that weren’t so great were during the pandemic when online sessions were the only option. My son took a break during this time because online classes are difficult for him. My son has hf asd and spd and has had OT, ABA, individual speech, and of all those therapies with various companies/therapists, Seven Bridges social skills has been the best therapy for him. He’s learned so much and has been able to generalize what he’s learned into everyday life. More recently in his current group, he’s made friends with the boys and we’re in the process of setting up play dates outside of session. This is the first time he has really connected with other kids locally and we’re so happy and excited for him to hopefully further develop these friendships. There was a time that we thought he would never make friends other than with our friend’s kid’s. My son has had a great experience with Seven Bridges and I highly recommend their social skills groups.

I would go to your school district and request an assessment for speech, OT, and psych. My son had a speech delay so he was getting speech therapy through my insurance. They thought he needed OT so he got evaluated and needed that too also through my insurance. I heard they can get these services for free through our school district so I applied. I told them about his behaviors- hyperactivity, repetitive actions, etc, and they suggested he do a psych eval. The district determined that he had autism which myself, husband, pediatrician, & speech therapist all thought otherwise. Nevertheless we enrolled him in the special ed program preschool for fear he would be kicked out of the private preschool we initially enrolled him in and he’s made huge strides in his behaviors and speaks appropriately for his age. We also had him see a developmental pediatrician who gave the official diagnosis for autism (high functioning) and then we started ABA therapy through insurance. He currently still does OT and attends a social skills group at Seven Bridges Therapy which has been amazing. I’d have to say of all the therapies, his Preschool Program and social skills group made the most improvement. Good luck!

Try Seven Bridges Therapy in Oakland. My son goes to a weekly group there.
