Anatomy and dissecting class for little kids
–Jun 3, 2025Hi there!
I have a 7 year old really interested in anatomy and had a great time in a one time class to dissect a cow’s heart. I’m not having any luck finding after school programs or camps that offer a similar experience. Does anyone know of anything in the East Bay? (I’d be willing to to go to SF too).
Thanks!
Jun 3, 2025Reply now »Science or tech after school activities for 5th grader
–Jul 4, 2022Hi!
I am searching for after school classes or activities for my 10 year old for the next school year. He is not athletic but interested in anything related to science, engineering, and tech, preferably not coding (we already have a class for that) but maybe something like robotics, ideally in a group setting and in person. We live in Albany so looking in the Berkeley area.
Would appreciate any ideas/suggestions.
Thanks!
Jul 4, 2022Science Enrichment for Science-Starved 8th Grader
–Oct 19, 2019My 8th grader has had a rotating set of substitute teachers in science class this year. He loves science, and the subs are nice but they aren't able to deliver the content that's needed. He is worried he won't be ready for the 9th grade.
Although he's bright, this is not a kid that searches out additional homework. However, he told me that he's "science starved" and asked if I could try and find him a class outside of school or some kind of program he could attend.
Does anyone have info on a good local or online option that is happening now? Some sort of on-demand science class or club in the area? It's not exactly tutoring that we need, but maybe there's a tutor that can also deliver curriculum?
Thank you for any ideas!

ATDP (Cal summer science camps) has a great one for incoming 4th graders with lots of dissection, hands on learning about organs. Human anatomy. Generally great for experiential science learning across their offerings.
Hi, they generally don’t allow little kids to dissect actual animals. It’s not necessarily even common before high school. There are however real life models you can buy and I believe online dissection apps and/or websites. I've often seen them do cow eye dissections at the Exploratorium in SF.
Do not know of any programs but there are some DIY things you can do https://www.nilesbio.com/cat482.html
