Vintage bike repair request

Hi,

I'm looking for some newer recommendations for a repair shop for old bikes. I've got a 1970's 10-speed with old style brakes ( I've heard them referred to as suicide brakes but I'm still around so....) in need of a check up, especially the brakes. The bike has been in for maintenance some what regularly so it is far from a mess. Just old.( The same could be said for me.)

I'm also expecting I'll need new wheels/ rims. Hoping the bike is still standard- enough to get a good pair easily for my nice, heavy steel frame.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

they are a great shop and can handle it.

I don't know if they work on vintage bikes, as I've only brought new bikes there, but we use Cycle City in Alameda for our bike repairs. They are knowledgeable and charge fairly. You could also look up Pioneer Bikes off Piedmont Ave.

Edmund at Pioneer Bicycle on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland is terrific and we've had him tune up (and also upgrade) more than one vintage bike.

Go to Pioneer Bike Shop on Piedmont Ave in Oakland.  Edmund will know what to do with your bike.

Google says: This veteran bike shop specializes in fixing new & vintage bicycles & sells various parts.
