Swimming rehab for 77 yr old

Hi BPN,

My 77 year old mother who has been an avid walker her whole life is having leg pain and can't walk any distance anymore. She's done a lot of physical therapy that's not helping. Does anyone know of a swimming coach/therapist who does private or group lessons for rehab? We read Why We Swim by Bonnie Tsui and are very inspired about the healing powers of swimming. Plus, swimming is awesome. East Bay preferred but through the tunnel would be fine too.

Many thanks for any leads!

PTI (in El Cerrito) does aquatic therapy at Albany Pool two days a week.

Also , there are other aquatic classes at that pool most days. Depending on your mother's mobility and tolerance of cold water she could choose to be indoors or outdoors.

If she wants to be indoors, there are also many people who exercise independently at the Albany Pool, and at Kennedy Pool in Richmond.

The City of Berkeley offers a senior swim exercise class at West Campus every morning.

The choice depends a lot on your mother's ability/desire to participate independently.
