Seeking physician who incorporates holistic health, Berkeley

Hi, all - I recently relocated to Berkeley and I'm looking for a primary care physician, preferably in Berkeley, but I'm open to North Oakland and Albany as well. I need someone who incorporates holistic health into how they practice and helps patients manage their health, rather than treating only once something is seriously wrong, and I'd like to be able to use my insurance (right now it's Cigna). Thank you!

I have two recommendations: 1 out of pocket, although she’s very reasonable and smack in the middle of downtown Elmwood Berkeley, and one that will take your insurance.

Neither of them is deeply ensconced in true functional medicine or certified through the Institute for functional medicine, though each is very comfortable with a more holistic practice of healing and conversant with different methodologies.

The first is Dr. Alexandra Johnson of greeting health, And the office is right next to the noodle restaurant and the intersection with Claremont on College Avenue.

The second is the Institute for health and healing, which is part of the California Pacific medical Foundation. I believe they actually now have an Eastbay satellite office for urgent care, but their mean “campus,” if you will, is at 2300 California St. in San Francisco. You can look on their website and see that they have a variety of practitioners and focus on up-to-date allopathic Western medicine but also definitely with a bent towards alternative medicine as well. I’m sorry to say that my two favorite MDs there have both left the area but they were equally trained in internal medicine as well as Ayurvedic and functional medicine. I would imagine that the practice is continuing to hire people of that bent.

Best wishes in your healing journey!
