Reading tutor for third grader, suspected dyslexia
We are looking for a tutor in reading and spelling for our third grader who right now reads below grade level. His teachers suspect he might have dyslexia, we are getting the test done in the fall. Hoping to find a tutor to work with over the summer who is well versed in Orton-Gillingham and possibly Lindamood-Bell. Any recommendations?

Once your child's evaluation is completed and you have an understanding of the full scope of their needs, I recommend finding a qualified Educational Therapist (https://www.aetonline.org/parents-community/find-an-et) who has specialized training in remediating the reading issues with dyslexia and other language disorders, as opposed to a 'tutor' who is not necessarily trained. In addition, if you could have your child tested ASAP they could begin work over the summer, which would be so much better for them academically, as the jump from third to fourth grade work is quite precipitous.
I also suggest you read "Overcoming Dyslexia" by Sally Shaywitz and do some research on the other issues that dyslexic children face, aside from their academic challenges. It is not a 'one size fits all' condition that only pertains to reading, but rather a way of thinking and acting with a brain that operates differently. I say this as the parent of a child who was evaluated in 3rd grade as well, and went on to be a strong student, recently accepted at top universities, with the early help of an excellent ET and a lot of research on our part. Good luck!
