Nice brunch venue that serves grits for Grandma's birthday?

Does anyone know a festive place to have Sunday brunch in the East Bay that serves grits? This is for Grandma's 89th birthday, and if it's breakfast, she needs to have grits.  She does not care for trendy stuff such as avocado toast or chicken and waffles.  But we also need it to be foodie-friendly for the younger family members.  Any suggestions?

This question brought a smile to my face! My first thought was Aunt Mary's in Temescal - check out the menu here. Not sure if they take reservations though.

Hi! Brown Sugar Kitchen has great food, including grits(!) buuuuut it's also really crowded and loud on the weekend. Not sure that's your grandma's scene.

My family has been in Alabama since the 1700s so I am pretty particular about my grits! Brown Sugar Kitchen would be my first choice, and I was pleasantly surprised by the grits I had at Mama’s Royal.

Aunt Mary's in Oakland is great. It has shrimp and grits on the menu, but you could probably ask for just grits. They have lots of normal breakfast/brunch things like pancakes, eggs, waffles, but also have a lot of interesting and super delicious things as well, like mushroom frittata, breakfast chile relleno, and other things that I can't remember at the moment.

perhaps angeline's louisiana kitchen? https://www.angelineskitchen.com/

I'm not sure I'd consider it foodie friendly, but it depends on what you mean by that. Lois the Pie Queen has grits, though. You may want to check the menu at Aunt Mary's, as they are southern inspired.

Two spots I recommend-- Lois the Pie Queen in North Oakland on 60th, and Brown Sugar Kitchen in West Oakland. Both serve grits, Southern style cooking, but with enough interesting on the menu to appease the foodies in the group.

You might try Brown Sugar in Oakland, tho they do cheese grits, not plain grits. A former Southerner myself, I find cheese grits a heresy akin to sugar in cornbread, but to each her own. Another choice, also in Oakland, Aunt Mary's on Telegraph. Sides of both plain and cheese grits plus lots of other choices for your foodie kin. Neither is particularly festive, but certainly acceptable venues.
