Late August summer camps
Hi parents,
Anyone know of summer camps near Berkeley or Oakland that will be in session the week of August 19? Looks like most end 8/2 or 8/9, and we are struggling to find options for the second half of August before school starts again.
On my radar already are Monkey Business (thru 8/16), Steve and Kate’s Oakland (thru 8/16), and Trackers El Cerrito (thru 8/23) - but was curious if others have found additional options.
We’ll have a rising kindergartener and this is our first year of camp - so are open to all different kinds of options (crafts, sports, outdoors, science, etc).

BUSD just announced that first day of school in 2024-2025 is going to be 8/14, which is probably why most summer camps end the week of 8/9. If your kiddo is in the BUSD program, wouldn't they also be back to school?
In the past, our old daycare and/or preschool usually will accommodate older kids coming back in to "help". Since they run year-round, I can depend on them being open! Could that be an option for you?

Just want to note that most camps end before that week because OUSD starts the school year on 8/7 and BUSD starts on 8/14. I think most other Easy Bay schools start around that time too!
This doesn't apply to a rising kindergartener but we have sent our tween (now teen) up to Oregon for (backpacking) summer camps. They start school later so the camps run later too. They've loved their experiences up there and we look forward to these camps every year... not helpful now but maybe something for the future. Good luck!

Yes, this is a challenge! Last year my incoming kindergartner did a week in August at the Van Der Zwaan Dance camp: https://www.zwaandance.com/summer-camps.html. She had fun. Otherwise, I got a baby sitter to take her swimming in the mornings :)
