ISO mountain biking club for 10 yo (non-competitive)
My 10 year old son is very interested in mountain biking and is a solid beginner. I'm looking for a club/team for his age but am only finding ones for middle and high schoolers. Any tips? He wants to learn more technical skills (and I'd like him to learn safety skills!) Ideally something in the vicinity of Berkeley / El Cerrito / Orinda / Pinole.
thanks so much!

Sounds like you already found the Wildcats team, which is for 6-8th graders. I’m not aware of any teams in the East Bay for younger kids, but there are a few mountain bike camps in Marin that take kids as young as 8. You might start with that, and maybe see if they have any school year programs as well. Wheel Kids has some camps and school year programs in the east bay as well but they might be farther from your specified area. Good luck!
Wildcat Composite used to allow 5th graders to join, but they had to have an adult ride with them (a parent or other responsible adult). You can email wildcatcompmtb [at] gmail.com (wildcatcompmtb[at]gmail[dot]com) to see if they still allow it. My son just graduated from it and had a great three years riding with them. He started as a solid beginner and is now going to race for the Berkeley High team. Wildcat is a really good, supportive group of students and coaches. Good luck!
