How much are you paying for a nanny share?
Hi parents!
My partner and I are exploring childcare options for our baby and are considering a nanny share. We’re based in Oakland, and would love to get a sense of what other families are paying for nanny shares in this area.
• What is the hourly rate or monthly cost you’re paying?
• Do you provide any additional benefits (e.g., PTO, sick time, bonuses)?
Also, if you have a nanny you’d recommend, please share their contact details.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences. 😊

We are a family in a share and each family pays $20 an hr for 45 hours a week. Our nanny also gets two weeks paid vacation and a bonus the equivalent to two weeks pay. Sick time isn't explicitly spelled out but it's never been an issue. She also gets federal holidays. When are you looking to start the nanny share?
Hi!
We are in Oakland and looking for a nanny share too. I’m also curious about rates and would love if you can share your findings!
Just sharing in case this is helpful - we found some nannies prefer to be paid in cash while others may want to be on payroll. If they are on payroll you have to pay additional taxes per month. If paid in cash, you need to include this when you file your taxes in the Spring. Not sure if you already researched tax info but wanted to share since this wasn’t on our radar intially and impacts our budget.
Best,
Shaina
We pay $42/hr between 2 families (we split $20/$22 because we've been with her a lot longer and she does a few extra things for us so we pay more).
We give her a couple weeks PTO + sick days (I think we actually now combine for a total of something like 30 days between PTO & sick?) and we give a holiday bonus of about 3 weeks' pay (I believe 2 weeks pay is standard).
21 per hour per family, 2 weeks paid vacation, 1 week paid sick, 1-2 weeks pay for year-end bonus, time and a half for more than 8 hours a day, mileage reimbursement
Hello! We pay $20/hour per family ($40/hour total) for a share in Oakland (Redwood Heights) along with 2 weeks paid leave and 1 week sick leave for our full time nanny. We have also had a one-on-one nanny in the past (2021-2022) and her rate was $30/hour.
