  • Hi there,

I recently moved to Berkeley with two 12-year-old who are really into riding trick scooters and are used to riding at skateparks next to skateboarders in San Francisco, Marin, and Alameda. We were surprised to learn that the Berkeley skatepark does not officially allow scooters at all. Do you know why this policy exists? Is there any hope of changing or modifying it? If so, what do you recommend as next steps?

    Thank you,

     Christopher

    Hi Christopher -

Scootering destroys the coping and mixing bikes and scooters with skateboarding is dangerous. The Moraga skatepark (just over the hills) allows scootering and therefore it is almost all scooters there - that might be a nearby and easy way to get your kids to a scooter environment for them.

    Cheers,

    Angela
