Re: Lonely 2nd grader is the only African American in her class
Hi There! I'm not sure if you've looked into this school but, Sheltons Primary Education Center in Berkeley/Oakland! I have heard GREAT things about them http://www.sheltonsprimary.net/

This is a private school with African American Teachers and African American Students. They have been around a long time and I think one of our best kept secrets. Check it out. Also a parent of children wanting Black Like Me

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has any knowledge about this school? I have heard some REALLY wonderful things i.e. small class sizes, wonderful teachers, the children graduate and go on to do well academically, they start children at 2 1/2 and the school goes up to 5th grade, they have been around for 30 years and the tuition is reasonable.

I would like to hear any feedback good or bad about this school and, I would like to know where do the children go to school after they graduate? My husband and I are thinking of sending our child there in the Fall and I know that applications will be coming due soon. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank You in Advance, Anon

My child is currently in the 1st grade at SPEC and has been there since pre-school (4years now). Shelton is a wonderful school that has a very family based atmosphere. Her classroom size has about 18 children with two teachers. I love this school because they teach my child alot of African-American history that most schools don't focus on. I would recommend this school to anyone. Good luck with your decision. SPEC mom
