April 2014

My eldest son attended Sycamore Christian Preschool from age 3 until 5, and my youngest has been attending since he was 3 and will be ''graduating'' this June. I have never recommended them before *only* because they are such a wonderful preschool and I didn't want them to get too full. This coming year their enrollment is down, and so they are looking for families to enroll. (Plus, we'll have graduated.)

Sycamore is a Japanese-English Christian Preschool, but don't let any of those things stop you from considering them. They speak both Japanese and English to the children, so the children are always comfortable. We don't speak Japanese at home, but my children have picked up many words and songs that they love to sing. They are housed in a church, and the pastors love to visit and play with the children. Bible stories are part of their regular routine, but they do not proselytize the children or try to convert them. My husband is Jewish and our children go to synagogue, and we never felt uncomfortable with them at Sycamore.

The teachers are wonderful and very caring, and the children get to interact across the age groups, which helps the younger ones feel more mature and the older ones be more gentle. I have never seen any of the teachers raise their voices to the children, but they still manage to keep them well-behaved. Most amazingly, the children put on a Christmas pageant every year, and all of the lines and songs and actions are completely memorized. The first time I saw four-year-olds with memorized lines acting out the parts to a 30-minute play, I was blown away. It was fantastic, and I attribute it to the wonderful teaching staff.

I could go on and on about Sycamore and about how sad I am that we will not be going there once my youngest goes to kindergarten in the fall. If you are looking for a warm and loving preschool, with some structure and lots of play, I encourage you to schedule a visit to Sycamore.

Very Satisfied with Sycamore
