Re: Preschool Near Dimond District Oakland
Check out Cottage in the Woods. They offer full days, 830-500, except on Friday, which is 830-1230. Their program is affordable and all meals are included. Sara Newman is the director and she may offer you a discount for enrolling two at a time. Oakland Montessori is also right down the street, which is quite a bit more per month. Hi, I have been looking for information on Cottage in the Woods preschool in Oakland (Dimond area) and have not been able to find any reviews on them. Not sure if they just do not get enough advertisement, recognition or people are just indifferent to their services. I welcome any comments, information or experiences - good or bad. Thank you. I can't say enough about what a great place Cottage In the Woods pre-school has been for us. Animals, outdoor play, cooking, creative movement and music, community activities, nature studies, an extremely wide and wonderful variety of art, and the mixing of ages fosters so much social development.
I think one of my first impressions of the school was how nice the kids were. To me that said a lot. The teachers are incredibly nurturing and the kids seem to have learned all of these positive behaviors through the stimulating activities that Miss Sara plans for them each day. I only wish I could continue my daughter there for kindergarten. It's truly a home away from home. Fyi, if you're interested sign up soon, they fill up fast. Cottage Parent

Can someone tell me some updated information on the 'Cottage in the Woods' preschool? The archive information is from 2004 and doesn't list much info. Is the school play-based or learning based? What are the hours? Also, is there a waiting list I should be aware of? Any information you can provide would be great! Thanks! thinking ahead mom
My daughter went to Cottage in the Woods last year. We love Miss Sara and Panesa! They did a lot of fun art, music and outdoor play. My daughter really loved it. She frequently asks to go back and visit.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about this daycare/preschool? It doesn't appear in the Archives (yet?). I'm looking to move my son from his present home-based daycare to someplace supportive, w/ more art/creativity as well as playing. I've heard some good 'reviews' of Cottage in the Wood, but would like more feedback, if possible. Thanks! Time for a change
Hi, My daughter goes to Cottage in the Woods and we LOVE it there. They are very warm and nurturing. Sara was an art teacher before she opened this school, and it really shows. The kids do lots of wonderful arts and crafts activities. They may already be full for next year, so I would act fast if you want to sign up. I highly recommend this school.
