Re: A getaway for only one night
I know just the place! Laurel Ridge cottage in Inverness (www.laurelridgecottages.com or email irwinsegal [at] yahoo.com or call 415 663 9584). Inverness, which is next to Point Reyes, is just over an hour's drive from San Francisco (but feels quiet and remote). There's great hiking and dining nearby. The cottage is up in the hills and has a private outdoor hot tub. It's quiet and spacious and has the most cozy, comfortable flannel sheets I've ever encountered. They will take one-night bookings on weekdays. Hoping to stay at Laurel Ridge again soon

Re: Wedding night romantic getaway in the Bay Area (March 2005)
It's not quite in SF or the East Bay, but Mankass Inverness Inn in Marin near Tomales Bay is nice. They have a few cabins separate from the lodge that feel secluded. Dinner is good. It's probably a little over an hours drive from the East Bay.

Try Manka's Lodge in Inverness. Like a cushy hunting lodge, in a beautiful location, with a great restaurant....and very small.

Re: One-night getaway on the Marin/Sonoma Coast (Oct 2003)
My husband and I recently rented a really lovely cottage in Inverness. I found it on the internet under Pt. Reyes Inn and Cottages. Call the number (or e-mail). I spoke with/e-mailed a man named Tom, who may be the owner. Very nice man. I believe there are 2 cottages and an Inn type of building right on Tomales Bay. I think it was $185.00 per night which I thought was reasonable compared to some other prices I'd encountered. Our cottage was the first one off of the road and it was totally private. Very cozy and comfortable with a deck facing the bay and the bedroom and living room window also facing the bay. We spent a Friday and Saturday night there. We went to dinner on Friday night at Vladimir's restaurant (which was empty, and FAB, but be hungry), and the next night we stopped at the store for some already cooked chicken and had a lovely dinner at the cottage.

For us it was a long overdue, much needed getaway that totally rejeuvinated our marriage. Have fun. anon Re: Family getaway in a beautiful location (Oct 2003)
Call Manka's Inverness Lodge and see if the Fishing Cabin is available. It's my husband's and my favorite ''getaway''--VERY pricey but just what you describe. Private cottage, fireplace, hot tub on the deck, outdoor shower (kinda--private walls, open to the sky--accessible from the bathroom or hot tub), big bathtub and just an all-round generally cool place. The restaurant is fabulous. Breakfast can be had in the room if you like. No kitchen, but lots of other good places to eat nearby. Can't beat the Point Reyes/Tomales Bay scenery and lots of things to do from hiking to kayaking to horseback riding to biking, even wine tasting for local champagne, basically an ideal getaway in my opinion. The people at Mankas are topnotch at recommending places to go, things to do, and making arrangements so you can go and do them. The fishing cabin has a big bed and a large comfy sofa so sleeps three. Beth

Re: Family getaway in a beautiful location (Oct 2003)
Inverness Ridge in Inverness (west Marin) was great http://www.invernessridge.com/index.html It is actually a big house and three small bungalows - you can rent one or all. We stayed in the big houes, Hemingway House. It's a fabulous house in the trees with a great hot tub and deck, gas bar-b-q, full kitchen, living room, dining room, master bedroom and a small bedroom with a twin bed. There is a washer and dryer too. They stock the house with breakfast foods (muffins, fruit, coffee, juice, bacon, milk, bread, eggs, cereal etc) Close to great hiking and beaches at the Point Reyes Nat's Seashore, great restaurants nearby and only a short 1 hour drive from the East bay - yet you feel like you are a thousand miles from home. Good luck! kristi

Re: Romantic Getaway for Couples (March 2003)
Head for Inverness for a romantic Bed and Breakfast experience without a long drive. Here are some Web sites of nice places or places you can search: http://www.teninvernessway.com/ http://www.cabbi.com/ http://www.blackthorneinn.com www.rosemarybb.com Jeanne

I very highly recommend Manka's out in Inverness. They have fabulous cabins, some with outdoor hot-tubs and showers, and some with clawfoot soaking tubs and fireplaces. Their restaurant is amazing also. One caveat, they are quite pricey, but I do believe it is worth it. Manka's is a real treat. It is located right on Tomales Bay and there is so much to do there.... hiking, exploring, kayaking....... Have fun! Julie
