  • Does anyone know of any queer prenatal support groups.  I have done a lot of research and it looks like either places have closed due to pandemic or are no longer running groups.  Just looking to build community with some queer parents or soon to be queer parents.  Thank you!

Hi! Our Family Coalition used to host support groups for queer parents and prospective parents. It looks like they still do them in person, in SF and the East Bay. Although, when I looked at the events calendar, I could just see one virtual meeting for prospective and expectant parents.

I've had a great experience with Maia Midwifery - they offer support groups for expecting queer parents and new parents (which was great). It's remote and based out of Seattle but there's generally a number of local families.

My wife and I joined a MAIA Midwifery birthing class via Zoom, and continued on with their early parent support group, and are still actively in touch with our cohort 1+ year postpartum. Midwife Liam Kali is extremely experienced and created a wonderful space for us. Locally, BORN Collective is based in SF but has a large East Bay contingent. They're wonderful and we've made some great friends through their meetups, which are both virtual and in-person. Best of luck—and congrats!

Are you in the East Bay Queer Families FB group? There is someone who is running a group out of their backyard currently for new parents and posted info in that space.  Our Family Coalition sometimes has a group running, so I would check their calendar.  Maia Midwifery also has a nongestational parent support group, and a solo conception support group.

Check out Maia Midwifery - they have a bunch of online options

Hi! My wife and I are currently in a queer new parent support group with Meghan Elliot facilitating (the one mentioned above being held in the backyard). It’s wonderful and Mama Meg is a fabulous facilitator. She does these groups on an ongoing basis, you can email her at Meghan.Jean.elliott [at] gmail.com.

  • Can anyone recommend a therapist or support group in Berkeley/Oakland for a newly-pregnant woman with Rheumatoid Arthritis who is also struggling with all-day morning sickness, constipation, anal fissures, exhaustion, and intense smell sensitivity? What a combo!

Congrats and also ugh sorry, it sounds like a lot you’re dealing with. Not sure if you’ve chosen your OB but we did the Centering program at Sutter Health Milvia location which was super helpful to have a cohort of women to go through it all together. Not therapy in the professsional sense but very therapeutic and a great way to build a better relationship with your OB. There are a few acupuncturists that specialize in pregnancy which might help with some of your symptoms. Happy to look up who those were if you’re interested. Hang in there!

  • I'm looking for a queer centered prenatal group for my second pregnancy. The first time around it just wasn't the best fit for my partner and me. We're hoping for a little education but mostly community in a queer prenatal group. Any leads?

    Hi,

Have you looked into the services of Meghan Lewis?  She is the founder of the LGBTQ Perinatal Wellness Associates (http://www.lgbtqperinatalassociates.com) and also runs support groups in Oakland at Then Comes Baby.  Here is her website:  http://www.meghanlewisphd.com/

There is also a wonderful non-profit called Our Family Coalition, which might have what you are looking for:  http://www.ourfamily.org/family-support/playgroups

    Best wishes!

    Hi,

You might want to check out Rebecca Plum www.hearthstonemidwifery.com as well as Megan Lewis www.meghanlewisphd.com and see if either of them may have groups that would be a good fit. They may be able to recommend other resources if they don't have any current groups.

    Hey y'all,

After doing a little more research I found that Pacifica Family Maternity Center is about to have a queer group pop-up. Found this info in the Queer Mamas group I'm apart of! If anyone knows of any others, let me know. <3

"We are excited to open up our Queer Group to the larger community! We have many topics specific to LGBTQI conception, pregnancy, and parenting.

This is a donation-based group to serve our greater community. If you are interested in joining the group, please fill out our survey

Please share this information with your communities!
    Warmly,
    The Pacifica Team

I believe Then Comes Baby had a queer prenatal group, but I'm not seeing it listed anymore on their site. They do a have a second time moms group though...

Janaki at Loving Arms Childbirth Services came highly recommended though I did not end up taking any classes with them.

You may want to check in with these organizations and see if they have any recommendations based on your needs.

Good luck to you and your family!
