What tablet is best for kids these days?

I'd love your input on what the best tablet for kids is these days.

I'm looking for something for my son that would grow with him and can support learning apps (Homer, Khan kids, Osmo, etc....)but that is also durable/kid proof and kid friendly or I can purchase a case to protect it for.

Tablets that come to mind right off the bat would of course be an iPad (but which one?!), Samsung Galaxy tab and Amazon fire tablet. Any favorites out there? Pros/cons/feedback?

Depending on your kid’s age and the apps they’re interested in, a touchscreen 2in1 chromebook might be a good buy. You can fold it over to act like a tablet but then it also has a full keyboard and can function like a laptop. We bought our then-7 year old an Asus C433 in March 2020 and it’s still working great and has survived being dropped and stepped on multiple times. our 4 year old who can’t read or type yet is able to use it like a tablet. It doesn't feel as luxe as an iPad, the camera is bad, and the chrome App Store is very unpleasant, but the device is super functional and we will get at least a couple more years of use out of it!
