How to find a reliable used car

Hi all! Our nanny is looking for a reliable, four-door used car. Her budget is $5,000. We'd love to help her find something that is a good fit--any advice re where to look? Better yet, anyone trying to offload an old car? Thank you all for your help!

My son had good luck at Autometrics in El Cerrito, 10200 San Pablo, a couple of blocks north of El Cerrito Plaza.  Some bad Yelp reviews; many more good ones.

Try Buggy Bank:  https://www.buggybank.org/

If you find a car that fits, bring it to a trusted mechanic for an inspection before you make an offer on the vehicle.

Yes Buggy Bank.  Also, do you have a mechanic or does a friend? Our last car was found for us by our mechanic--- an amazing Prius, 75K, $6,500.  He knew the Prius' qualities as he had serviced it before.   Often when a customer is thinking of selling their car, they'll mention it to their mechanic.
