Do you know first hand of a place, local or by mail, to get garden soil samples tested for heavy metals? (I'm not seeking a place to test nutrients and ph.)

It might sound strange, but the lab at UMass Amherst will help you test your soil for a fraction of the cost of many CA labs: https://ag.umass.edu/services/soil-plant-nutrient-testing-laboratory
Call the Alameda County Healthy Homes program (the number used to be !-800-B-Lead-Safe, don't know if it is anymore) and ask for their recommendations on getting comprehensive soil testing done. Good luck!
