Replacing garage doors

We're looking for some new reviews/advice/referrals for garage door replacement.  We currently have an older pull-up garage door that isn't very weather-proof.  We'd like to replace with some carriage doors that can match closer to the style of our 1927 stucco.  Do you have any recommendations on where to start this process?  Any ideas on the cost? Thanks in advance!

Replacing garage doors (Feb 24, 2024)

We wanted to do the same thing. We wanted horizontal bifold doors with a single swing entry, though, and that turned out to be complicated. We tried multiple recommended companies, but no one in the Bay Area was willing to take this on. Tungsten-Royce in southern California initially offered to quote, but failed to follow up - and in any case we had doubts about working at that distance, even with a local installer.

In the end we ordered the tracks and hardware on our own, had a local window company make up the door panels, and did the finishing and installation ourselves. This wouldn't have been possible at all without significant skills. The results were superb, but It was a long, exhausting process and I wouldn't recommend it for most people.

Our neighbors have good-looking upward-folding period lookalikes from rwgaragedoors.com and reported positive experiences dealing with them. I think they do swing doors, but when we talked to them they didn't offer horizontal bifolds so they weren't for us.
