Recent JCC threats

Hello. With the recent threats to JCCs around the country I'm wondering how current JCC families or those with any perspective on the matter think about it. We were thinking about enrolling our son in the JCC preschool next year but are honestly a little shook up by the recent threats. Just wondering if anyone else is feeling the same and how they are dealing with it. Thanks.

Hi!

My child attends the JCC preschool. There has been no threats made to the centre. The director emails us with updates. My child loves it there.

My kid is in a JCC preschool. We are doing our best to not be terrorized by terrorist anti-Semites. The threats haven't been toward our JCC also, not that it matters. I wouldn't let an anti-Semite determine the best preschool for my kid.

To be honest, it was one of the three to four reasons that we've decided not to enroll our son in a Jewish preschool. The JCC in the North Bay did receive one of the threats. My child has his entire life to deal with anti-Semitism. I want to protect him from it as long as I can.

The positive side of the JCC preschool (or another Jewish preschool) is that your child learns to see being Jewish as normative, and are immersed in Jewish culture with its emphasis on the arts and celebration. My child attended Gan Shalom and then the JCC after-care in elementary school. The combination gave her a strong foundation. Without much experience of positive Jewish life, a Jewish child can end up feeling alienated from that aspect of themselves.
