My 4yo son has been seeing Dr. Victoria Hsu in San Ramon for two years due to strabismus and we've been very happy with her care. Dr. Hsu also did a surgery to correct his strabismus last year which went very well. She's affiliated with UCSF Children's. When I initially called UCSF Children's in Oakland for an appointment 2+ years ago, I was told the first available was nearly 6 months away. Dr. Hsu's office got us in the following week. It's a bit of a drive to get out there (~30 min from Berkeley) but worth it.
Regarding the glaucoma care, I have been navigating the process for five years and have seen a lot of doctors.
I ended up going to UCSF Mission Bay,. You need to have your primary care MD fax them a referral, and it requires the labors of Hercules to get in the door. But once you're in, the quality of the care is superb.
Here in the East Bay, i do NOT recommend: Hiroshi George Tanaka, Jane Lohman, or Stephen Pascal. Michael Wang MD is capable, but he has an imperious bedside manner. I fired him because he was bossy and uncommunicative.
Dr. Rebecca Janik is great for cataracts, but doesn't do glaucoma.
Wishing you the best! Open angle glaucoma can usually be well controlled.
