Slow but challenging Yoga class

I am very middle-aged and would like to find a yoga class in Berkeley that is slow but challenging.  I can't do heated or aerobic-style yoga.  Would also like to find a class that has some people my age.   Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Hi there -

I am also middle-aged and found that Eliana Chinea is the perfect teacher for me. While "young," she structures her Friday evening class at the Berkeley Yoga Center in a way that all folks a little rusty or slow get challenged, but not overwhelmed. Her classes are superbly structured, she is keen on teaching proper alignment and going slow to get into a specific pose, but she adds sufficient flow or other challenges to really make you work. http://www.berkeleyyoga.com/instructors.html.  and http://www.hippiesandgranola.com/ Hope to see you there!

The Berkeley YMCA has yoga classes that fit the bill.  Though, I can't say I've ever been to a yoga class anywhere that I'd call "aerobic!"  The YMCA has a large range of ages  and the teachers are all supportive.

You might enjoy the class my husband goes to at Ojas Yoga Center in EC Plaza:  Rhoda's class happens EVERY Thursday from 11:00 a.m. - 12 noon.

The studio offers a beautiful, healthy environment; the teachers are 1st rate and Rhoda is outstanding.  She designed the class for seniors-- who pay discounted price of $10-- and/or people just getting back into yoga, for beginners and for people recovering from surgery or injuries.  Once you've done a class or more with Rhoda you'll know what other class might be the next step for you.

Directions: Next to Trader Joe's in the Plaza, take elevator up to 2nd floor. Once you've passed thru the area with elevator doors & stairwell, turn right & go down that hall. Look for # 707.  You can drop in, but since you're a new student, best to get there at least 10 minutes early to get registered.

Try Adeline Yoga. Iyengar is the way to go.
