Multiple Personality Disorder (Dissociative Identity Disorder)

Hello,

My 25 year old daughter, who had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, started manifesting multiple personalities about two weeks ago.  Her current psychiatrist says she has no experience in this condition and is trying to figure out how to move forward.  My daughter is angry that she is not seeing an "expert" in multiple personality disorder or dissociative identity disorder, as it is now clinically known.  Needless to say this new development is very stressful for everyone in the family, especially her younger sister (15 years).

Does anyone have any experience with this disorder?  Does anyone know of anyone practicing in the Bay Area who specializes, or even just has clinical experience, in this disorder?

I have always gotten great advice and tips from BPN.  Thank you for your advice.

NAMI has the Family to Family class . It is free, 12 weeks , once a week. I found it very helpful in understanding a family member.

I know a great deal about dissociative disorders, not from personal, but from clinical experience.  I would recommend you look at the website:  International Society for the Study of Dissociative Disorders (ISSTD.org) for potential therapist referrals.  If you google Psychology Today, you can do a search sexual abuse treatment, and probably for DID)  I would ask potential therapists about their training and years of experience in this important area.  Treatment with someone who is well trained is vital.
