Monte Tavor on Laguna

Hello-

We are considering Monte Tavor for our 15m old son and I'm wondering if anyone could share a review. Many thanks!

My 2 year old has attended Monte Tavor for the past year and we love it! The teachers are all warm and caring and my son has thrived. The facilities aren't fancy, but they have nice outdoor space, lots of books and do a variety of activities with music, art, free play, circle time. They also cook all meals, which includes a variety of flavors and vegetables. We really like the language component, and my son can speak and understand Spanish, even though we don't speak Spanish at home. My son is confident, very verbal, social, and I attribute a lot of that to Monte Tavor. They have infants to 5 year olds, but adjust the program with each age group. We plan to keep our son at Monte Tavor through preschool, which is also nice that we don't have to worry about school until kindergarten.

One downside is that you don't get a lot of daily updates, but they provide parent-teacher conferences, a newsletter, and the director is always very responsive if I have specific questions. This hasn't been an issue for us, but I know others like a lot of daily information.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, and I would be happy to share.

My daughter has been at Monte Tavor for about 3 years and will be "graduating" this summer. We chose Monte Tavor because of the lovely outdoor spaces, as long as the weather is not terrible they do spend a lot of their day outside which we really like. The teachers are generally great and she is fluent in Spanish even though neither of her parents are! I think they have done a good job of transitioning from "daycare" to "preschool" and seem to keep a good balance of free play and learning activities.

I would definitely second what the previous poster said about communication, however. It has been an ongoing frustration for us which at this point we have just accepted- that we really don't know what our daughter is working on/learning on a day to day basis, who her classmates are, when her main teachers change, etc. It is not because they are hiding anything and the information is available if you ask, it just is not communicated regularly or clearly. Another example is lunches- amazing that they provide lunches and they generally seem to be high quality and healthy, however we don't know what she is getting on a daily basis. If you ask you will be directed to the sample menus. Now we can kind of rely on her for that information but not so much over the past years, and it would be nice to know so that we aren't giving her a second meal of pasta for dinner, etc.

Anyway, that has really been our only complaint, and while it has been frustrating it doesn't change the fact that our daughter is very happy there, loves her teachers, feels comfortable and is thriving. I would overall recommend with some reservations. Good luck!
