Millennium High in Piedmont?
The size and the approach of this school is very appealing. Our 2E child has done better in smaller environments in the past and currently attends a small experiential middle school where they are doing much better than their previous larger school.
They are extremely bright and are ahead in math and is off the chart (psychologist’s words) in ELA. But, they struggle tremendously with executive functioning and ability to complete homework and projects when they do not interest them. Smaller schools have been able to give a more individual attention and provide support.
I am concerned about the social consequences. Do high school aged kids in Piedmont look down on Millennium students? I am concerned our kid will lose their existing friends. The thought of being viewed as kids who can’t cut it in regular school makes me and my kid pause.
I would appreciate hearing from families with recent graduates or current students.
Thank you.

Hi - I'm a Piedmont resident and have a kid at Millennium and would be happy to chat. Millennium students do take some classes at PHS especially after 9th grade and there is some of the dynamic you mention but there are also kids who successfully navigate that and keep their same friends. MHS students can participate in all of the clubs, activities and sports as PHS students and the lunch times are the same so there is the ability to go hang out with your friends at lunch. Overall, I think that dynamic is improving - among parents in the community MHS has earned a reputation as being a hidden gem and both schools are working on improving the relationship between students at both schools. Please reach out if you'd like to talk this through.
