Medical malpractice attorney recommendation, please

Hi there, BPN'ers:

Unfortunately, I need a medical malpractice attorney recommendation.  My outpatient laparoscopic gallbladder removal went sideways after the gallbladder was nicked.  I spent ten days in acute care, then had to return for another week.  The surgeon said hundreds or thousands of sand-sized gallstones spilled into my cavity - lodging in weird places, causing gross, and painful, problems.

I've decided to sue, to try to feel better about the complications I've got to live with.

Thank you for any help!

I'm so sorry this happened to you!  I had a different situation of what I believe was medical malpractice.  I ended up having two surgeries and spending two miserable weeks in the hospital, which could have been totally prevented, not to mention the further disruptions to my life while recovering and the elevated risk of future health complications.

That said, when I spoke to medical malpractice attorneys, they basically said that since I was neither dead nor permanently disabled, the California state caps on malpractice were too low for them to take my case.  This happened to me in 2022 and they've raised the cap since then but I don't know if that would really change the outcome.

What I did was 1) file a complaint with the Central Complaint Unit, Medical Board of California - Enforcement - CCU (complaint [at] mbc.ca.gov) and 2) complained to the hospital / doctor's office, such that eventually I was reimbursed by the doctor's insurance for my out-of-pocket medical expenses in a compromise settlement without the doctor admitting wrongdoing.  Also, the doctor who misdiagnosed me called me (I presume to apologize or at least sympathize with my complications) but I didn't ultimately pick up the phone as I didn't really want to talk to him.  But it did make me feel like I was at least heard and putting my trials into writing was somewhat cathartic.
