Looking for a new CSA
Hi community - we were saddened to learn this week that Golden Gate Organics, has gone out of business. We are looking for a new option for produce delivery, but I'm having a hard time finding one that checks all the boxes we got from Golden Gate Organics. Here are the things we are looking for in priority order - if you have a CSA you use and love that matches most of these things, I'd love to know about it!
- Home delivery (a must-have - we have an erratic schedule so can't pick up a box from a location)
- Both fruits and vegetables are sent (also a must have)
- Delivers year round (also a must have)
- Allows substitutions of items in any given week
- Ability to cancel a delivery if you will be out of town
- Allows you to mark certain items as "never send these" in case of allergies etc.
- Allows you to add on extra items in any given week if they are available

Greenhearts family farm checks most of these boxes. The only two I'm not aware of are allowing substitutions or marking "never send these" items. We have been using them for over a decade and love it!

I got Talley Farms when I lived in a place with no local CSA pickups, it meets all your requirements except no “never send me”/extras. The website to skip deliveries when out of town is easy to use. It probably depends on your area, but the rep for my old area was highly responsive to emails about substitutions, although I had a feeling it was very labor-intensive and was contentious about not adding too much additional cost to their operation. They are not local to the Bay Area if shipping impact is a concern.
We have used Farm Fresh to you for five years. They will check all of the boxes that you listed in your request: they deliver to the doorstep, allow for customization, include both vegetables and fruit, and will manage delivery for vacations. The food is truly fresh and healthily delicious. We highly recommend them.
Farm Fresh to You, offers all of the things on your list. Delivers to your home, fruits and vegetables, customize-able each time, can skip/add deliveries as needed. Excellent quality, organic. Definitely recommend them; we've been customers for many years.
We use “farm fresh to you”, which I think ticks all your boxes. They are also very good about reminding you to check / update your box if you haven’t signed in, and pull together from a few farms to enable a variety of produce options. If you are interested, there is probably a referral code I can share to get you a discount on your first box.
they deliver overnight / early morning and use dry ice if you order any meats. Never had any issues. Really helps get the good stuff, without trying to get my 3 young kids through a farmers market 😅
