insurance for home in Berkeley Hills
Hello BPN Community,
I got a notice the other day that my dad's insurance carrier (Farmers) is no longer going to cover his homeowners policy I know that he is just one of many, many, many. I am wondering if any of you know carriers willing to insure in the Berkeley Hills?

Hi! I don't know if they specifically do Berkeley Hills, but we just got home insurance in Berkeley with Allstate - we went through Timothy Carter's local office in Berkeley.
Try Bamboo Insurance, They are a non-admitted insurance company meaning they don’t have to show their financials to the state and can charge whatever they want to charge.
There are very few. We're in the Oakland hills and luckily our insurance company (SageSure) renewed, but they increased our premium by 80% which is absolutely ridiculous. There is the California Fair Plan as a last resort. Expect any plan to be very expensive. We work with Goosehead insurance agency, in case that's helpful. Good luck!
We live in Kensington near Tilden and we have AAA home and EQ insurance.
I am currently in the same predicament, but in Oakland Hills. Farmers may be able to find an affiliate insurer who can cover the home without fire coverage. Then for basic fire coverage (with a very high deductible) your dad can get a separate fire coverage through the California Fair Plan, which he can purchase through the same insurance agent. Another option is to contact an insurance broker who can do a broad search for an insurance company that will insure the home. I dealt with Circadian Insurance. In my experience, the premium jumps considerably, so be prepared for quotes that jump in the range of 35%-130% above his current policy. Good luck!
