I need to learn German! Tutor? On-line classes?

After many delays, it looks like our family will finally be able to travel to Germany this summer.  While I know English is widely spoken in German, I really want to finally get a chance to put my high school German to work.  But boy oh boy am I rusty (and honestly, I was never a great German student to begin with).

There are many highly-rated apps and self-paced programs, but I really need someone to force me to actually speak.  I'd love an on-line class, if such a thing exists.  Alternatively, a reasonably priced tutor might be an option.  Or an app or program that has a live component to it.

Danke schön!

I believe Duolingo is a good app

While I don't have a tutor or online class to recommend, I am a native German speaker :) There is a facebook group of German expats in the Bay Area where you might be able to find good advice. In my experience, many German parents are interested in German classes for their kids, so they'll likely to be able to point you toward helpful resources. My own kiddos are still young, so I haven't done that research myself quite yet. Also, I've found the Duolingo app helpful for brushing up my high-school French. Feel free to message me directly if you're interested in meeting up sometime for some German conversation. Viele Gruesse!

I have been using Babbel for German and it’s pretty good - I’m at an intermediate level and am also planning to try their “Live” online classes soon. Or if you want to invest in the real deal, the Goethe-Institut in SF has fantastic language instruction both in person and I imagine online. Viel Glück!

Long ago, I took  intensive German classes with The Goethe Institut .  They offer online classes:
