Homeowner's Insurance - Elmwood

Hello. I recently received a letter from my homeowner's insurance company, Safeco, saying that the insurance will not be renewed due to my home being in a "densely populated area." My house is located in the Elmwood district. I was surprised, as I have been aware of people being dropped from insurance in the hills due to the fire hazard, but that has not really been an issue in my area. Can anyone who owns a home in the Elmwood area provide recommendations for a replacement company? Which company do you have coverage with? Thank you in advance!

I am in a different area, and very happy with my current insurer (fortunately never had to use), which is Lemonade. If you like it, please use my invitation link: http://bit.ly/3RLw3Fh

Good luck.

I'm in the same boat.  We also have Safeco and were denied renewal for the exact same reason.  It's ridiculous.  And no insurance companies are insuring for homes in California.  I am frantically calling companies as our deadline is later this month.  So...no advice just commiserating.

OP, here. Tried Lemonade, but it said they were unable to offer a quote at this time due to limited capacity for new business. Sigh...Thanks, anyway!

Try Daniel Lapicola at Goosehead. He was able to get us insurance when others told us it was impossible just last month.

We also got the same letter from Safeco. Total bs. We live in North Oakland near the Emeryville/Berkeley border. We were able to get a new policy through Geico. Geico doesn't actually underwrite the policy but they work with partner companies that do. Our policy is underwritten by Homesite, which got questionable reviews, but we figure it's something for now and better/cheaper than going with the California FAIR plan. We will likely try to switch when something finally gives with the home insurance situation in California. I also had some luck with Progressive (which I think operates with home insurance similarly to Geico) and AAA (you will have to switch your auto to them too to get them to consider insuring you). Good luck!
