Holistic dermatologist for husband's dandruff, eczema

Hi BPN,

My husband has lots of skin issues. Dandruff on his scalp, lots of red, flaky skin under his beard growth, eczema in various places, skin peeling between his brows.
Does anyone know of a holistic doc to address this? Someone that won’t just prescribe a cream. Thanks.

Had a similar issue on face and went to dermatologist and she said just to use a ketoconazole-based dandruff shampoo like Nizoral to wash your face as well as hair. It worked very quickly…don’t know about the eczema though.

I can’t revommend a particular dermatologist, but you might consider an allergist if there is a significant history of allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, asthma and/or eczema - basically all the allergic profile stuff…. However, the flaking between the eyebrows, in sideburns, and in the beard is called seborrheic dermatitis - and generally does NOT require a prescription at all! Usually just applying a daily touch of Aquaphor/Vaselline emollient or a touch of the thick white Eucerin cream (in the tub) is enough to keep it at bay. For cleanser - which is actually more aboit mousturizing skin in these situations - is best done with a very gentle and non-drying skin cleanser like Cetaphil or Dove bar soap unscented. As a long time family doctor for poor patients, I specialize in cheap and effective. :)

Other people have suggested topical treatments, so I will, too, Kanuka (not Manuka) honey may help.
