Heat Pump and PV contractor

Some may remember the Whole Earth Catalog.

Its famous editor, Stewart Brand, in a recent biography, listed what the 70's counterculture got wrong:  drugs, domes, communes and -- solar hot water.

So we need to take down our malfunctioning solar water collectors, switch them out for photovoltaics, and install a heat pump.

Can anyone recommend good contractors in the East Bay?

Thank you!

I can highly recommend Yellowjacket HVAC; run by Berkeley High grads who are deeply committed to our community and sustainability. They did our heatpump system very well, very efficiently, with good humor and clear information. Check them out: https://www.yellowjacket-hvac.com/

All Things Good recently completed a full heat pump HVAC system at my house in Berkeley. They were very easy to work with and did a great job.

Sunwork.org did both for us. Very happy 2+ years later. They have been fully responsive when it comes to support. On the PV, once early on the wifi connection had trouble; they handled it even though I certainly could have. The HPWH is great, but the Rheem has had a couple of parts fail or start to fail—it sends me a warning seemingly in advance so we've never lost hot water. Again, the sunwork team has been great, there's a 10 year labor warranty from them, besides the product warranty, but I do admit I'm concerned about the product longevity. All that, but love love love that we've eliminated the gas WH with absolutely no difference in our hot water availability. (also, HPWHs available to consumers need 30A circuit, but Sunwork installed similar that only needs 15A—IYKYK). Highly recommend Sunwork.

It's a little unclear if you want a heat pump only for water, or also for HVAC, but look into the Harvest System, which does both at hte same time, and very efficiently. https://www.harvest-thermal.com/

For installation, we were very happy with Eco Performance Builders.  https://ecoperformancebuilders.com/

Be sure you look into any available rebates and/or tax credits (depending on your location and tax situation).
