Getting into Hillcrest

What are the chances of not getting into our neighborhood school, Hillcrest, for kindergarten? I've heard there are fewer spots there than other schools.

I believe Hillcrest has taken all neighborhood families for the last few years (although historically there have been years when there hasn't been room). It's nonetheless worth listing a second and third choice just in case, though.

Sorry, but unless something unique happens, your chances are practically nonexistent. Hillcrest cannot even guarantee spaces to all of the kids in the catchment area. Fortunately, there are many schools in OUSD that are just as nice, if not nicer:)

Your chances of getting in are very good, based on past precedent.  Virtually all neighborhood kids get into the school if they apply in Kindergarten. However, there have been exceptions and mix-ups in previous years, so you should still have a realistic back-up plan for Day 1 (i.e., another OUSD school), and be prepared to appeal the decision or make a last-minute move off of the wait list (the latter happens quite a bit -- there's a lot of re-arranging the first week of school). If you are determined, it is likely to work out.
