Dog sitter for 5yr old yellow lab (sweetest dog ever)

HELP! We are looking for a dog sitter for our amazing, cuddly 5 yr old yellow lab named Furley. We moved here from the Midwest last year and we're headed back for the holidays (Dec 14-23). We had a sitter lined up through Rover and she just cancelled! Not sure what to do because we really don't know anyone here.

He had a dog sitter in Ohio that he loved (she had two small dogs) and he also went to doggie daycare, so he is very comfortable with other dogs (but not good with cats). We have a 2 year old that is his best friend, so he also is great with kids.

Would love to find a home for him while we're gone, and we will pay a good rate! If you are interested, please contact me. We are located in Albany but will drive practically anywhere if we can find a place. We have never boarded him at a business, always in a home, but I'll take recommendations if you know a good one as an alternative.

Thanks so much! Kellie and Nate

Our dogs have been super-happy with Metro Dog (local, Richmond Annex) and Tappen Hill (Sebastopol).  Both have some pre-stay hoops to jump through, and our experience has been that they fill up during holidays.

Years ago I put my big dog in daycare 2-3x a week and overnight boarding at Pride and Pedigree. My pup was well cared for by Kelli and her staff, and got a balance of free play time with other dogs, and mid-day downtime. Group size was reasonable so it didn't get too crazy. In fact my dog was reluctant to leave at pickup because one of the workers played fetch with him at the end of the day. They've since relocated from Oakland to Concord, but it looks like they still get great reviews. https://www.yelp.com/biz/pride-and-pedigree-concord

I trust few with the guardianship of my Aussie, but...I do trust Shari Emerson in Albany. She does boarding and walking and is literally like the dog whisperer 510-384-6576. If she is full, she can possibly  direct you to other folks.

Hi. Try Linnea [at] rockridgepetcare.com or linnea [at] thedogduchess.com. She has taken care of my dad’s Lab when he had surgery or went out of town. She does it in her home with her own dogs. She is wonderful and the dogs are all super happy. She’s in Rockridge Oakland.

I've had GREAT experiences with Trusted Housesitter (probably sort of like Rover).

I don't suggest NextDoor for many things, but I think based on the number of posts and replies I've seen looking for dogsitters, I think it would be worth putting out a call on NextDoor or searching past posts for names of dogsitters in your area. We previously found someone through Rover for our dog, and it was fine, but if you find a sitter on NextDoor or through word of mouth, you'll be paying that person directly instead of letting some "dogsitter-industry-disruptor" take a portion of their fee!
