Current Thoughts on Lafayette vs. Walnut Creek Elementary Schools

I'm interested in hearing people's recent experiences with Walnut Creek and Lafayette elementary schools. My family is thinking of relocating from San Francisco. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each school district? Are Lafayette schools more desirable than Walnut Creek in general? Is Walnut Creek Unified School District more desirable than Mt. Diablo Unified School District? We are looking for a high quality school with strong academics, parent involvement, lower student/teacher ratio, diversity, love of learning/school spirit, etc. What are the most desirable schools in the area? Thanks in advance. This is based on nothing but my observations after 17 years living in Lafayette, but yes, Lafayette schools are generally more desirable and WCUSD is more desirable than Mt. Diablo.  In Lafayette, all the schools are highly regarded, although Happy Valley and Springhill are probably the most sought after.  Remember, just because you move into an area that sends kids to a particular school, you are not guaranteed admittance to that school, as it will be based on current enrollment numbers.  Lafayette also just passed a large bond that will be used in the next few years to update school facilities and technology.
