BUSD Bus Service
My child was assigned a bus stop very far from our home (30 minutes walking distance). We are eligible for the bus and our school is in the right zone for our address, so it isn't an issue of needing an exception. I am trying with BUSD transportation to get it moved, but they're not very responsive. Is this a typical experience people have with bus assignments that they would be so far from their home?

This school year, BUSD's "efficiency" modifications have significantly impacted our school bus service, a recent and unwelcome development. Previously, our bus stop was conveniently located just a couple of minutes' walk from our home. Now, it's over a mile away, requiring a 30-minute walk each way through hilly terrain. This change has affected over 30 children in our neighborhood, making the school bus service nearly unfeasible for their use. Parents are actively trying to resolve this issue but have not yet succeeded. We are now escalating the matter to the BUSD school board and superintendent.
Hi, I'm part of a growing group of parents who are organizing around this issue to pressure BUSD to change the routes they've put in place this year. Some of us are attending the school board meeting tonight to speak during the public comment period and we have been writing lots of emails and making calls. I'll send you a private message here with my email address so I can add you to our group and you can join our efforts!
Our stop was 1/2 a block away and has been a neighborhood stop for decades. Now it's almost 1/2 mile away even though there were 6 kids using our stop daily.
Like others said, email the Board of Education and speak at Board Meetings (thanks to everyone who did tonight).
The Transportation Dept rarely responds to emails. They implemented the Stopfinder App last year and it has been a terrible waste of money.
