Berkeley Playhouse audition and class waitlist

Our 11 year old child loves musical theater. No formal training or performance experience. They did some musical theater / acting summer camps in the past. They are a decent singer and dancer.  I would not go so far to say they are extraordinarily talented, but they enjoy singing/dancing and can hold their own. They love acting and do seem to have natural ability as an actor.

They are interested in auditioning for the winter/spring kids stage production.

How difficult is it to get in? Do you have any audition tips? This is the first time auditioning for anything.

BPH recommends that we sign up for after school class because not everyone who auditions gets in, but the class is already full. Do the waitlists tend to move as kids are selected for the performance?

Thank you.

hi there!

Our 11 year old daughter has been participating in Berkeley Playhouse Youthstage and just loves it. She has been taking formal singing/voice lessons for 3 years, so that probably helped, but by no means is it required or necessary to audition and get in. It's a great group of kids and the training they receive is well worth the time and money. Practice the lines and songs that are posted online for the auditon, and just have your child go for it. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice on waitlists and after school classes. Good luck to your child!
