Operating an After School Enrichment Program

Hi there,

I noticed that a lot of elementary and middle schools have parent volunteers who are enrichment coordinators. I am thinking about taking on this role for my son's school. For those who have done this, how do you typically identify the vendors you want to use at your school?  Are there any organized after school enrichment program fairs that schools or other organizations put on?

Thanks so much!

Here's how it works in El Cerrito, http://el-cerrito.org/146/Enrichment-Classes. Way back over 10 years ago when it was getting started, parents with skills in crafts or sports were the first instructors. My daughter loved these classes.

I have been a vendor at a lot of East Bay schools -- be forewarned, it's a lot of work. A lot of schools are using a service, Homeroom, to do registration now but there's still a lot of coordinating. I think if you look around at the vendors in other similar sized schools you'll see who are the regulars. Also, everyone has to be insured and finger printed and all.

Good luck! It's a lot of fund when it works!

I have noticed that sometimes people on staff at the school are interested in teaching an after-school class.
