Advice on German American International School?

We're currently relocating from Berlin to the Bay Area with an elementary school aged daughter and another child on the way. What have family experiences been like recently at German American International School? We're interested in long-term enrollment for kids, so hearing experiences from preschool through high school would be very helpful.

Have a great relocation trip! We have been at EBGIS in Emeryville since 2022 and we really love it. The community of parents we met have been wonderful and many of the teachers are extremely dedicated and really love the kids. Have only experienced preschool and kindergarten so far so I can’t personally speak to the higher grades but the new executive director has very ambitious plans to continue growing and fostering learning there. I’m very happy there! If being close to nature is important, I suggest you look for housing somewhere in Berkeley which is an easy drive or bike ride to school every morning.

I don’t have info to share about German American International School, but depending on where in the Bay Area you relocate, you may want to consider East Bay German International School as well (https://www.ebgis.org/). We chose EBGIS after having visited the area and toured schools, and, since relocating from Germany a few years ago, we‘ve been happy with the decision - and our child‘s choice to continue - as we specifically sought a school that would support developing proficiency of both German and English. Our child has really thrived academically and socially, and the school community has also been an integral part of our family’s establishing a new home while keeping close ties with our old home. The high school’s bilingual IB Diploma Programme is a big draw for our child to continue at EBGIS, as it‘s a great preparation for higher learning in both German and American universities.
