Inspire Behavioral Learning, LLC has summer employment openings for Nature Camp Counselor, Assistant Nature Camp Director, & Nature Camp Director in Call of the Wild Camps, outdoor nature camps in the Bay Area! Inspire's outdoor educators use emergent curriculum & experiential learning to open a wondrous door to the great outdoors as our living classroom. Responsibilities in a Nutshell:
- Nature Camp Counselor: teach & lead children in grades K-5, ages 5-10, in outdoor day camps. Inspire's educators create a safe & fun learning environment with hands-on nature exploration, nature connection, biology activities, environmental education, leave no trace activities, hikes, storytimes, nature journaling, nature-inspired arts & crafts, creative play, & more!
- Assistant Nature Camp Director: fulfill all Nature Camp Counselor duties, in addition to training & supervising camp counselors, parent communication, & assisting with directing daily camp operations.
- Nature Camp Director: manage daily camp operations & supervise participants, camp counselors, & assistant directors.
Locations:
- Oakland: June 23-July 18 at Joaquin Miller Park & Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park
- Berkeley: June 23-July 18 at Tilden Regional Park
- Los Gatos & Cupertino/Los Altos: July 21-Aug 8 at Oak Meadow Park & Vasona Lake, Rancho San Antonio County Park & Preserve
Qualifications:
- You are an adult (age 18+)
- High school diploma
- The #1 quality in all of Inspire's employees is a passion for both teaching & learning, for the best educators are the best learners
- At least 1 yr experience teaching in K-5 level camps or equivalent experience
- Regular experience hiking or running trails on varied terrain at least approx. 6 mi./day
- Already possess unexpired CPR & First Aid certification
- Already possess your own reliable vehicle & auto insurance
- Demonstrate a fun & engaging teaching style with high energy, creativity, adaptability, spontaneity, dynamism, & positivity
- Eco-conscious skills with a demonstrable love of nature & the outdoors, life sciences, biology, environmental science, outdoor education, or environmental education
- Health-conscious skills with a demonstrable love of active & healthy living
- Enthusiasm for making education relevant to children's lives
- You can articulate how veganism benefits animals, health, & the environment
- You are vegan as an ethical philosophy & lifestyle advocating for cruelty-free, positive alternatives to unnecessary animal exploitation for food, clothing, recreation, entertainment, household products, & the environment
Additional Qualifications:
- Director: at least 12 months experience supervising, training, & leading novice educators or recreation leaders. Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Assistant Director: some leadership experience with educators/rec leaders. Some college/university coursework in a related field.
Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:25 AM-4:35 PM, except July 4th is a day off
Compensation: $20-22/hr DOE
Classification: Non-exempt employee; full-time for summer 2025 season; seasonal; temporary. Successful hires may be invited to return for future seasons (camps are held in summer, fall, winter, & spring!).
